The Quickest Way to the Beach: Fly Oct 19

While tiny, Costa Rica has an interesting landscape; with the Central Valley lodged between chains of mountains and volcanoes, it has one of the most biodiversidad per square meter in the whole world. Yet if you have little time, and cannot see it all, or are simply after a relaxing time on the beach, the best way to travel is definitely by plane. There are two local airlines, Sansa and Travelair, or Charter flights. There are regular flights to most of the best destination of the country, from San Jose to Golfito, going up on the Pacific to Manuel Antonio, Samara, Nosara, Tamarindo, and other central destinations. Liberia. Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste on the norther pacific coast, has now an international airport and some people prefer to fly directly to Liberia that is close to all the beaches of Guanacaste.  The Caribbean does have  an airport and it is supposed to re-open very soon.

The national air tickets have gone up in price over the last few years and the service is not always as good as it should be. Charter flights in comparison may be a little more expensive but are definitely more reliable. If you are a resident, it is about 50% cheaper. The advantage is that it takes you 40 minutes to get to a beach while it would take you 3 to 7 hours by car or  by bus, depending where you are heading to! So if you are on a tight schedule, don’t think twice, just jump on a plane! Do make sure that you book in advance as the planes are quite small and there is a high demand for flights, so, there are almost always full! You can check the airlines online and travel agencies can also book flights for you. Also, remember that you have to confirm you flight 24 hours before you leave, even if you have already purchased your ticket, or else you may still loose it!

Charter flights are gaining popularity because they are more reliable, indeed, it is a bit like having your own private little plane! The air taxi can take up to 5 passengers and can take you just about anywhere,  wherever there is somewhere to land! This may remind you of an Indiana Jones trip and can be a bit of an  adventure; small planes can be a bit shaky   and if you are not very keen on flying, or not used to this kind of planes, this may not be for you! For those who are all for it, enjoy the ride, best way to travel!
